The Kedarkantha trek is a 5 days and 4 nights round trip trek which starts and ends at Dehradun. The Kedarkantha Trek difficulty level is easy but the amount of snow can make it a challenging trek. Kedarkantha Trek is a great option for all those who do not have much experience trekking. Kedarkantha is the most sought-after winter trek with batches starting from mid-December and ending at the first week of April.
The trek begins at Dehradun. You can reach Dehradun easily by road, rail or air. Dehradun has its own railway station and airport (Jolly Grant airport).A brief description of the Itinerary for the trip is stated below.
DAY 1: Travel from Dehradun to Sankri (10 hours, 6450 feet).
The Renok adventures representatives will meet you at the Dehradun station with cars waiting for you to start your unforgettable journey. The drive is one of the most scenic drives of the Himalayas where you will experience several picturesque and placid views of the bustling city of Mussoorie followed by Barkot, Purola, Mori, Netwar while driving alongside the Tons river. You will cross several brooks and streams on the way. Stop at these scenic sites for great pictures and start creating memories. Spend the night at Sankri in camps. From Sankri you get a beautiful view of Swargarohini the beautiful himalayan peak.
DAY 2: Trek from Sankri to Juda ka talab (4 hrs, 9000 feet)
Today, you will start your trek from Sankri at 8AM after an early morning exercise session and breakfast. The trek will lead you through some dense forests of Pine and oak trees into a beautiful clearing with a lake called the Juda ka Talab. You can also spot some fauna here like the Langoors, wild bores or the hares. Several cattle and horses can also be seen grazing around this area. The setting is the perfect destination for photography enthusiasts as it offers a great view of the snow clad peaks around with the lake in the middle. Overnight at Juda ka Talab in camps.
DAY 3: Trek from Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base (7 hrs, 9000 feet)
Wake up early in the morning to see the magical sunrise at the Juda ka Talab with the golden glow spreading over the snow clad peaks and reflecting over the lake spreading warmth all over the clearing. After lunch, trek for 4 hrs to reach the Kedarkantha base where you can spend the rest of the day exploring the wilderness. Spend the night at the Kedarkantha base sleeping under the blanket of the stars with shooting stars wishing you the sweetest of dreams.
DAY4: Trek from Kedarkantha base to Kedarkantha peak and then trek down to Hargoan (3 hrs, 9000 feet)
Today will be a long day, so after an early breakfast, trek upto the Kedarkantha peak and enjoy the mesmerising panoramic views from it of peaks like Bandarpoonch,Swargarohini,Kalanag etc.. Have lunch enjoying the splendid view at the peak, then trek down to the nearby camping site at Hargoan.
Follow the stone market trail from Hargoan to reach Sankri leading through dense forests of Pine and Maple trees, with a few breath-taking glimpses of the Har ki Dun valley. Overnight at Sankhri.
Drive back from Sankri to Dehradun with a bag full of memories.

- The transportation cost from Dehradun to Sankri and back will have to be borne by the trekkers, the total cost of transportation one way is Rs. 5500 (to be shared among 5-6 people, i.e Rs. approx Rs.1000 per person one way) – to be paid directly to the driver. Trekker can opt for our transport, which we can organise for them, or the trekkers can make their own arrangements and reach Sankri.

Kedarkantha Trek in December
The Kedarkantha Trek remains snow clad from mid-December to the third week of April thereby offering activities like skiing and sledging. While trekking to the Kedarkantha peak you will come across some of the most beautiful meadows and clearing in whole of the Himalayas. With lush green grass dotted with tiny little white wild flowers during the summer months, to a pristine pure white carpet of snow in the winters, these meadows offer great camping sites for the trekkers. The Juda ka Talab camp site is skirted with dense pine trees around its edges followed by the Kedarkantha base camp surrounded by the panoramic views of the snow clad mountains, these sites surely leave a huge impact on the traveller.
When you reach the Kedarkantha peak, you get a 360 degree view of snow clad sparkling mountain peaks all around. It literally feels like you’re on top of the world, far far away from the actual world.
Temperatures during Kedarkantha Trek
During the summer months, the temperature ranges from 15-18 degree Celsius. The sun can sometimes get a little harsh during the day. This period extends from April to June.
During the winter months, there is ample amount of snow and the temperatures range from 5 degree Celsius – below freezing point.
During the monsoon period, the temperature ranges from 15-25 degree Celsius and the area receives 90% of its annual rainfall during the monsoon months that is from July to September.
